"It certainly has been one of my favorite things to do over the last year I have been volunteering at the Bicycle Collective shop to grab a great old school roadie off the rack and refurbish it into good basic transportation for somebody."
FACT: We have strange hours. Luckily they don't change often.
The reason is that the Bicycle Collective is much more than a place to buy an inexpensive used bike/part or get DIY help. While we have designated DIY hours for those personal projects, we also need other exclusive times for Volunteering / Community Service at the Community Bike Shop locations for our core programs such as Earn-a-Bike or working on Bikes for Goodwill Organizations.
You are welcome to call ahead and volunteer for any of these other programs, but please refrain from attempting personal projects at this time -- we don't like turning people away.
For a directory of over 300 organizations like ours, contact the Bicycle Collective Network (www.bikecollectives.org).
The mission of the Bike Collective Network is to strengthen and encourage communication and resource sharing between existing and future community bike shops. Collectively we can improve a bigger wheel as opposed to re-inventing smaller ones.
Our Mission
The mission of the Bicycle Collective is to promote cycling as an effective and sustainable form of transportation and as a cornerstone of a cleaner, healthier, and safer society. The Collective provides refurbished bicycles and educational programs to the community, focusing on children and lower income households.
