Krisha has been promoted!

Krisha Pessa did a wonderful job in 2009 as our Youth Director, and so she has been promoted to Education Director.

What does this mean?  Well...

In addition to being responsible for the existing youth programs, she is now our "day shop manager" which means she will be training volunteers on bike repair during the day, by appointment.

"The Salt Lake City Bicycle Collective receives more than 400 bikes yearly from the city police department and from private donors.  That's some serious locomotion.  Foliks in the community can swing by for a cheap bike, or learn how to work on their own ride.  Kids and people who can't afford to buy a bike outright can volunteer and earn $5 per hour toward a bike.  Not only does the collective help butts get on reused bikes, but it also helps keep them on.

In the context of people who ride bikes and people who drive cars, the terms motorist and cyclist can create a false "us vs. them" attitude that divides us.  The reality is that not all, but most people have a bike hanging in their garage next to a car, or a car in their garage next to their bike.  Regardless of how you look at it, the only difference is which one collects more dust.

Since the beginning of the Bicycle Collective, we have always traded tax write-offs for dusty bicycles -- now we have the ability to collect your dusty cars too!

Unlike bikes, we CAN pick these up!  Thanks to the kinds folks at Vehicles for Charity,  the Bicycle Collective gets 70% of the value of the vehicle.

Why not donate your vehicle today? All you need to do is to complete this simple online donation form or call 1-866-628-2277 and we’ll take care of the rest.   We will pick up your vehicle, arrange to have your donation towed, and provide you with a tax-deductible receipt, all at no charge to you.

May thanks to John Delvie (Property Owner), Mark Firsher (General Contractor), Cameron Nerdin (City of South Salt Lake), Alan Broadbent (Frontier Adjusters), Arrol Morgan (Specialized Lock), Beehive Glass, Winmark Stamp & Sign and Vortex Doors just to name a few that helped make this happen!

The Twilight Concerts start this Thursday and we need volunteers to help with the Bicycle Valet.  We will never have too many volunteers for this event, especially the second shift.  So if you can help, please contact Kira at 801-696-2337 or Jonathan at 801-688-0183 to schedule a time.
Twilight Concert Bike Valet Shifts: 4:00pm-7:30pm, 7:30pm-10:30pm
BTW, The Collective is also providing Bicycle Valet for the Gallivan Plaza / United Concerts Series this summer -- and we need volunteers!  For this and other events, visit: http://www.slcbikecollective.org/en/programs/valet-bike-parking/336-valet-bike-parking-2011-schedule
